The fall theater season is flatter than usual but as bursting with talent and newness as ever. We’ve already summarized some of the happenings you can access from your own home. Now you can choose from among these to add to your calendar.

 

Now Available

The Party Hop

 

 

Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein are among the stars of the new 45-minute online play The Party Hop, which takes place on a Saturday night three years into quarantine. Will Ava (Feldstein) get her first kiss at a Zoom party? What would that even be? The play is available for a limited time at DPS on Air. A donation to YourMomCares, a charity founded by celebrity moms banding together for kids’ mental health, is suggested.

 

Human Resources

 

 

Washington, DC’s Wooly Mammoth Theatre Company has collaborated with Telephonic Literary Union on Human Resources, a program you listen to on your phone. The unique piece simulates the strangest customer service hotline you’ve ever experienced. Dial the 800 number and listen in on a series of mini-dramas that go farther than even your most memorable credit card inquiry. Tickets are $7 and are available here. The show runs only through Oct. 25 and each ticket is good for four days.

A Mexican Trilogy, Part 1: Faith

 

 

The Latino Theater Company will stream an archival recording of A Mexican Trilogy, Part 1: Faith by Evelina Fernández/ Travel with the Morales family through decades of the Mexican-American experience, beginning with a remote mining town in Arizona during World War II. October 7 and 13

Groundlings

 

 

The Groundlings Theatre and School has announced two online events with special appearances by alumni. On Wednesday, October 7 from 7:00–8:00 p.m., it’s “The Crazy Uncle Joe Show: Online Edition” with guests Taran Killam and Cathy Shambley. Tickets are $8.00 and can be purchased here.  Then, on October 13, it’s time for “Eating in Front of the TV,” with Laraine Newman and Emily Fleming, and special guest Mindy Sterling.  Join them in front of the screen from 7-8 p.m.  Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased  here.

Randy Rainbow’s Fireside Chat

 

 

Join Randy Rainbow for his first ever “Fireside Chat” from his home in New York City.  He’ll share stories, sing a song or two, and answer your burning questions. Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum’s “Carry It On” Gala

 

 

On what would have been closing night of Topanga Canyon’s own Theatricum Botanicum, Pamela Adlon hosts a free event, live from the outdoor theater, featuring music, aerial performances, Shakespearean wit and swordplay celebrating the upcoming Summer 2021 repertory season. LA Theater Works’ “Stars in the House”

 

 

Stars in the House Regional Spotlight: L.A. Theatre Works with special guests Seamus Dever, Sarah Drew, Matthew Rhysand Charlayne Woodard. They’ll have behind-the-scenes conversation and a sampling of clips from L.A. Theatre Works, a leading producer of audio theater, It’s live streamed at 5:00 p.m. here and you can donate here.

“Collected Stories” by Donald Margulies

 

 

Virtual Off the Page, a series of virtual staged readings presented by Sierra Madre Playhouse, presents streamed performances of Collected Stories by Donald Margulies. The first performance is Monday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m., with an encore on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 4:00 p.m. A talkback is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6:00 p.m. The event is FREE, but donations are gratefully accepted. Macbeth: A Surround Sound Experiment

 

 

Macbeth: A Surround Sound Experiment is a benefit for the Actors Fund. This all-new immersive audio performance of Macbeth is designed to be listened to in the dark on a pair of headphones, with a candle. Performances are on Friday, Oct. 30, Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 p.m.
