Legendary trumpeter Herb Alpert will be performing a benefit concert at the Wilshire Ebell Theater this Saturday, October 6th to benefit his alma mater, Fairfax High School. The 77 year old artist will be joined by his Grammy-award winning wife, the vocalist Lani Hall on stage, and Fairfax music students will perform during the drinks and dining portion of the evening, from 6-7:30 pm.  The event is sponsored by Friends of Fairfax, and tickets are $75 – $250, with the higher priced tickets including a private post-concert dessert reception with Alpert and Hall.
Alpert has long roots in the area, having graduated from Fairfax High. He also spent a few years at USC where, according to Wikipedia, he was a member of the USC Trojan Marching Band. There’s a wonderful article by LA Times writer Steve Oney from 2011 that describes Alpert’s origins, his rise with the Tijuana Brass that he created, his incredible track record as the “A” in A & M Records, and his generous life as a philanthropist.
