Larchmont Charter School is raising funds to support their music program in an innovate way: an intimate “House Concert” featuring performances by folk singer/songwriters JOANNE RAND and BARBARA COHEN at a private home in Windsor Village.

Her music dubbed “Psychedelic-Folk-Revival”, Joanne Rand has been touring nationally for 25 years, appearing with Bonnie Raitt, Bob Weir, John Hartford, and others. Rand’s compositions have been compared to Aaron Copland and her voice declared “hair-raising” by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gary Snyder. Rand’s songs traverse love, politics, conservation, and spirituality. Rand recently released her 13th album, “Stories from the Inside Out,” recorded in Nashville. Writing and playing music since childhood in the Deep South, Rand cut her performance teeth playing bluegrass in Alaska.

Barbara Cohen’s career as a recording artist includes co-founding the Virgin Recordsʼ band, Brother Sun, Sister Moon, collaborating with Englandʼs rave luminaries, Orbital, and singing lead vocals for France’s experimental duo, Air. She has also released several critically acclaimed albums both as a solo artist and with her eclectic folk band Little Lizard, and the rowdy, alt-country ensemble Farm Accident. Cohenʼs music expertly embraces genres from folk and roots rock to trip-hop, electronica and world music. Her music offers up a gorgeous, dark-streaked evocation of bitter truths, yearning and redemption.
Larchmont Charter School provides a socio-economically, culturally and racially diverse community of students with an exceptional public education that promotes students learning in an experience-centered, inquiry-based learning environment that with an emphasis on improving the world they inhabit.
