Join author and architectural historian David Silverman for a fascinating peek inside some of LA’s most famous homes, via Zoom this Wednesday, August 26 at 5:00 p.m

The virtual event is organized by the Windsor Square Hancock Park Historical Society, which also hosted Silverman at the Ebell of Los Angeles in 2018. Silverman is well known for his company LA House Histories, which creates commissioned coffee table books about the history of homes. His work has been featured in the New York TimesLA Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and Architectural Digest.

Silverman’s illustrated talk will include rare photos of many of the homes he has written about, including those once owned by Frank Sinatra, David O. Selznick, Bill and Edie Goetz, Shirley Temple, and more. Some of you may recall Mr. Silverman did a presentation of his work at the historic O’Melveny House on 5th and Plymouth early in 2019. Silverman will include the O ‘Melveny House in this presentation as well.

Historical Society President Richard Battaglia told the Buzz the WSHPHS is hoping to offer events several times a month. Next up on their schedule ( the date will be announced soon)  is a program titled, “The History, Architecture, and Stories of Wilshire Blvd.”

In July, Sharon Boorstin’s article about an an architectural driving tour of Wilshire Boulevard appeared in the Los Angeles Times. But the author has much more to say than her 1000-word limit allowed. Join Boorstin in a Zoom presentation covering the history, architecture — and fascinating stories — about the street once known as the “Fifth Avenue” of Los Angeles. Bring your own memories of Wilshire Boulevard in the past to share.

Boorstin is a contributor to the travel and lifestyle sections of the Los Angeles Times. The author of the memoir-cookbook “Let Us Eat Cake: Adventures in Food & Friendship” (Harper Collins 2002), she also has written for publications including Smithsonian, Bon Appetit, Travel + Leisure and more. Boorstin is an avid OLLI student and a member of the OLLI advisory board and curriculum committee.

This week’s WSHPHS program is free, but space is limited. For more information, please email Richard Battaglia. Click here to join the Zoom.
