Although we always publish a weekend events list on Fridays, sometimes we also find events worth noting during the week. Here are two that cropped up this week that we think would especially interest our readers:
Stories from the Frontline

Tonight, Monday, November 18 at 6 p.m. at St. James School, 625 S. St. Andrews Pl., the homelessness profile series “Stories from the Frontline” will present the inspiring story of author Angela M. Sanchez, who lived in a car as a high schooler, and has now written two children’s books about her experience. A Q&A will follow the storytelling, with guest panelists from the Mayor’s office, United Way/Everyone In, St James’ School, and “Stories” co-creator Marilyn Wells. The discussion will cover efforts to fight homelessness that are taking place in your community, and how you and your family can engage in the work being done by St James’ School and Church and our local service agencies. The event is free, but if you’d like to attend, please RSVP here.
St. Brendan’s Toy Drive
For the next few weeks, St. Brendan School is collecting new toys, sporting equipment and $25 Target gift cards to help residents and clients of Alexandria House and Adopt a Family have a happier holiday season. The church will then host two parties on December 14th to distribute the gifts: a breakfast with Santa at Saint Anne’s (a shelter for homeless women and children), and a holiday lunch party at Alexandria House. Donations for the toy drive can be dropped off at St. Brendan’s Rectory or St. Brendan School. For more information, or to volunteer for the toy drive, contact [email protected].
