Stephanie Barbé Hammer at Chevalier’s Books on Saturday

Stephanie Barbé Hammer peaks out from behind her book of prose poetry

Local Larchmont Village writer Stephanie Barbé Hammer will be signing her book of prose poetry Sex With Buildings at Chevalier’s Bookstore this Saturday, July 14th between 1-3 pm.

A regular on Larchmont Boulevard, Hammer is often spotted writing in local coffee haunts such as Pain Quotidian when she’s not teaching as a Professor of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at UC Riverside. She and her husband Larry moved here two years ago after daily drives through the neighborhood in her commute led her to want to live in the area.

Sex With Buildings is published by Dancing Girl Press, a small press founded by Kristy Bowen that prints beautifully designed chapbooks in limited print runs of 500 handmade editions.  DGP publishes women writers and artists exclusively and has brought some 100 titles to the public offering “work that bridges the gaps between schools and poetic techniques – work that’s fresh, innovative, and exciting.”

Hammer has shared a piece of her prose poetry with the Buzz, below. Stop in at Chevalier’s on Saturday and meet the poet herself, and perhaps learn the evolution of the intriguing title of her book.
