After all of last week’s extravaganzas, why not take it down a notch this week with a movie or two, some music, a leisurely baseball game, or put on your spiritual boots and head over to Pan Pacific Park for a “one-of-a-kind sound healing journey” with Etherica.

Unfortunately, Cinespia’s movies at Hollywood Forever Cemetery are already sold out for this weekend, but you can still catch some great classic films at other local venues. For example:
The Hollywood Legion Theater is hosting a full “Summer Weekend of Noir” with screenings of dark classics Nightmare Alley, The Big Clock, Mildred Pierce, Thieves’ Highway, The Narrow Margin, Loophole, and Cry Danger. Special guest at Sunday’s screening of The Narrow Margin will be Mark Fleischer, son of famed director Richard Fleischer (The Narrow Margin, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Vikings, Compulsion, Tora, Tora, Tora) and and grandson of legendary animator Max Fleischer, who created Betty Boop and Koko the Clown. And if you’d like to stretch your languid “Summer Nights,” into the main part of the week, you could also check out Tropicana Movie Nights at the Roosevelt Hotel, on Monday, July 12, with a showing of Grease. Doors: 7:15 p.m., Movie: 8:00 p.m., Tickets: $17-$52. Bonus: If you dress up in the theme of the movie, you’ll receive a free cocktail or candy.
Food & Fun
As noted above, “The Yard,” a new public gathering space and performance venue, opens today at DTLA’s California Plaza. The first official event will be the kickoff to the 35th season of the Grand Performances free concert series, with a performance by East African inspired jazz collective Ethio Cali and pioneering West Coast turntablist Cut Chemist. The park is located on Bunker Hill, at 340 S. Grand Ave., by the upper station of Angels Flight railway, and is open all day. The Grand Opening event will begin at 6 p.m., and the concert will start at 7:30.
For more music, you can do some back-to-school shopping at The Grove, while enjoying the last day of Summer Sounds on the Plaza with The Sounds of the Supremes performing on Friday, July 16 from 5-7 p.m. at The Original Farmer’s Market.
And after taking in the sweet sounds of Motown, head over to The Market’s newest restaurant, El Granjero Cantina. This contemporary Mexican restaurant has more of a plant-based menu, but there’s definitely something for everyone, including braised beef tacos, tomatillo chicken bowls, handmade tortillas, and freshly made margaritas and sangria. Hours: Sun-Th 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m., Fri-Sat until 9 p.m.
Finally, to wrap up Food & Fun, the Dodgers take on the Diamondbacks, again, this Saturday, July 10 at 7:10 p.m. and Sunday, July 11 at 1:10 p.m. Kids Run the Bases promotion will take place on Sunday after the game and is available for kids 14 and under. There will also be home games all next week, July 19-25, with promotions almost every night!

Community & History
The Hollywood Heritage Museum, located at 2100 N. Highland Ave, will officially reopen this Friday, July 9. Museum hours are Fri-Sun, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
On Saturday, July 10, from 6:30 – 10 p.m., Hollywood Heritage will also host Date Night Drive In/Silents Under the Stars at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills. There will be a screening of Buster Keaton’s, Our Hospitality, with live musical accompaniment. Proceeds will benefit the restoration of Paramount Ranch, which was almost completely destroyed in the 2018 Woolsey Fire. There will also be a raffle and live pre-show concert by Will Ryan and the Cactus Cowboys. Tickets are available for advance purchase only at $40/car.
Next, you can do your part for the environment this weekend and volunteer for The Great LA River Cleanup, on Saturday, July 10. Volunteers can register for 90 min shifts from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (shifts will be limited to 150 people), or you can do your own self-guided cleanup. The starting point for this week is at Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park, 2944 Gleneden St. If you can’t make it out this time, don’t fret, there will be several other chances to help out in the weeks ahead.
And last but not least in community events this week, be sure to tune in to the second in a series of free community conversations on the future of Larchmont Blvd., organized by the Larchmont2021 coalition of local businesses and concerned stakeholders (including the Buzz!). As we reported earlier this week, this session will cover the idea of “placemaking” on Larchmont, with a panel including two noted urban design experts. If you don’t yet know the term RHNA (commonly pronounced “reena”), which stands for Regional Housing Needs Assessment, you will soon. To get a jump on what all the fuss is about, and how it will affect our neighborhoods over the next eight years or so, be sure to tune in to the city’s second and final webinar on the city’s “Plan to House LA,” also known as the new draft Housing Element of the City’s General Plan, which will be held on Tuesday, July 13, at 12 p.m., online.
