If you love old estates, this is a tour you won’t want to miss: “The Heights of Elegance” tour of Sugar Hill.

The West Adams Heritage Association is hosting a tour of some of the famous and grandiose estates of the West Adams Heights area this Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 10am – 4 pm. The Rindge Mansion, and the home of actress Hattie McDaniel, best known for her role as Mammy in “Gone with the Wind”  will be open to the public for the first time. Also on the tour: the Charles I.D. Moore Residence, designed by the firm of Hudson & Munsell, architects of the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park.

West Adams Heights was developed at the turn of the century and was favored by many noted and wealthy Angelenos of the time for its picturesque location on a hill, which afforded views of downtown, the ocean, and scenic landscape vistas. Renowned architects were employed to design imposing homes.

The tour is self-guided and the homes on tour are relatively close to one another for ease of walking. The “Heights of Elegance” tour will benefit the WAHA Preservation Fund which promotes historical landmarking and cultural heritage programs in the area.

Tickets ($35) may be purchased online or at the door. The tour will begin at 2263 S. Harvard Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018. Please note that no tickets will be sold after 1 pm.
