Wilshire Country Club Plans Fireworks for July 4th

Fireworks display from Wilshire Country Club can be seen from all over Hancock Park

The annual tradition of amazing fireworks by the Wilshire Country Club is scheduled for Sunday, July 4th at 9 p.m. Local residents can once again see some of the best fireworks in the city, right here in our own backyards…or front yards…or streets,  depending where you’re located. Last year, all fireworks displays were canceled because of the pandemic, so it’s nice to them returning, and a good sign that life is returning to something closer to normal.

Having our own local fireworks display is a lovely, local tradition for those who enjoy fireworks. But it can also be unsettling to small children and pets, so be sure to take note and be prepared since this year there are a number of local-ish displays planned, including one at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and sounds are likely to carry across the city, frightening many pets.

Some pets, in fact, become so agitated by the noise and commotion of fireworks that they run from otherwise familiar environments and people, and sadly become lost, warns the Human Society. In general, pets are more sensitive than people to loud noises, flashing lights, and strong smells. So the experts’ best advice is to keep your pets far away from the fireworks. In fact, it’s best to leave them safely indoors, preferably with a radio or TV turned on to soften jarring noises. Even pets who are usually kept outdoors should be brought inside.

Despite the fact that all fireworks (except those in official, professional events) are illegal in the city of Los Angeles, there will still likely be a number of them set off throughout the weekend.  If you do see or hear illegal fireworks in your neighborhood, click here to make an online complaint to LAPD…though you should also be aware that it’s hard for the police to issue a citation unless they actually catch someone in the act of setting off the explosives.
