Windsor Square-Hancock Park Historical Society Homes Tour Next Sunday

Visitors can tour six historic Lucerne Blvd. homes on the Windsor Square-Hancock Park Historical Society Homes Tour next Sunday, October 14.

The Windsor Square-Hancock Park Historical Society is conducting its annual tour of historic homes next Sunday, October 14th.  Called “Legacies of Lucerne,” this year’s tour features six historic homes on Lucerne Blvd. in Windsor Square.

“We have a wonderful silent auction featuring lots of great donations from local businesses on Larchmont, and in the neighborhood, as well as an amazing wine selection,” said Richard Battaglia, president of the Historical Society and organizer of the tour. A self-described fanatic about historic houses, Battaglia organized last year’s tour of Craftsman homes in St. Andrews Square, reviving the historical society’s tradition of homes tours.

“Last year, we were in St. Andrews Square with spectacular craftsman bungalows,” Battaglia told the Buzz, “This year we are in Windsor Square, which features some of the best examples of Mediterranean and Beaux Arts homes built in the early teens to 1920s. I’m already planning next year, which I hope will be in Hancock Park on Rossmore Blvd.”

Visitors will learn about the architecture and lineage of each house and tour the first floor and grounds with volunteer docents who are often local history buffs. Tickets are $75 and include a sit-down lunch served at one of the homes, from 1-4 p.m.

Proceeds from the tour support many local restoration and renovations in the community, including efforts to enhance the courtyard at the Wilshire Branch Library, 149 N. St. Andrews Place. Past proceeds have gone to landscaping projects at the Francis Blend School for blind children, John Burroughs Middle School, Wilshire Crest Elementary School and Los Angeles High School. The Society has also funded landscaping projects at Fire Stations 61 and 52 and the Wilshire Police Station.
