Appreciate Los Angeles Via Vintage LA

“Sunset and Vine during the golden age” from Vintage LA.

We Buzzers love learning about the Los Angeles of the past, and there’s no way better than looking through old photos. If you’re looking for ways to defend the historical nature of LA to your east coast friends, or just love to see the familiar streets you now drive as they once were, you should become a fan of Vintage LA.

Born in 1970 and raised in LA, Allison Martino spent her childhood being dragged around our fair town by her parents Al Martino (a singer and actor who appeared in The Godfather) and mother (Judi an airline stewardess) who let her join them as they partied at Chasen’s or met musicians at the old Cock’n Bull. She fondly remembers the fomer Kiddieland amusement park that used to stand near the current Beverly Center, and bemoans the loss of so many great buildings in LA like the Ambassador Hotel.

The beauty of Vintage LA is part in pictures and part in the commentary. Individuals from across Los Angeles add memories to her growing treasure-trove of historic images. Martino even encourages you to dig into your own scrapbooks, or those of your parents and grandparents, and submit photos to the site be they interior or exterior shots. Perhaps it’s time to get those shots of early Hancock Park and Larchmont you have hidden away, some light online!
