Christmas trees arrived early this morning at the the Wilshire Rotary’s Christmas tree lot at 568 North Larchmont Blvd. The lot will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will remain open every day until Christmas.

“We have premium Noble and Douglas Fir trees, wreaths and garland,” Wendy Clifford, manager of the lot told the Buzz this morning. “We expect to get new shipments every two weeks until Christmas, so we hope to have enough trees.”

In addition to trees, there are wreaths and these adorable reindeer made from trees.

Overall, there are fewer trees this year due to the heat wave that hit Oregon in July. But according to Clifford, it was early enough in the growing cycle that the grower who supplies the trees for the Rotary lot was able to trim back the burned part of the young trees and many rebounded.

“The trees look beautiful – these are premium trees,” said Clifford.

Premium Noble and Douglas Fir trees are available on the lot.

Sadly, nearly 80 percent of the trees grown in Oregon were burned in the heat wave and that’s affecting prices too. The price of the Noble Fir trees has gone up because of increased costs for transportation, and the state of Oregon also added a reforestation fee to each tree, explained Clifford.

So maybe this is your year to fall in love with the Douglas Fir trees?  They are full and fluffy and a lot less expensive.

Sales from the lot support the Wilshire Rotary Club’s charitable work and the International Rotary Foundation. Trees are also donated to local charities.

Noble Fir trees are a bit more expensive this year, and there are fewer of them available due to the damage caused by a heat wave in July.

Douglas Fir trees are more widely available and much less expensive.
