Members of the Hancock Park Garden Club gathered greens and flowers from their gardens for floral arrangements to be donated to residents of Alexandria House and St. James Manor for Valentine’s Day.
“It’s a Garden Club of America tradition to donate floral arrangements,” explained Marnie Owens, who chairs of the HPGC Floral Committee. (HPGC is one of more than 200 member clubs associated with the GCA.) “Members love flower arranging and it’s a nice way to spread some holiday cheer in the community to those might not have it otherwise.”
Owens was inspired by other GCA member garden clubs across the country, which often make floral arrangements for local residents to enjoy. So she decided to do something for Valentine’s Day and contacted nearby Alexandria House, a transitional home for women and children, and St. James Manor, an assisted living facility for the elderly. Both were delighted to receive the donations.
This morning, we found Owens and three other members of the club making arrangements at her Windsor Square home, and took some photos of their work. Owens will be delivering a total of 48 arrangements later today.
