Happy Thanksgiving

At the Buzz we are inspired by our mascot, the bee.

This description of the bee found in the book, “The Tattoo Dictionary, An A-Z Guide to the Secret Language of Tattoos,” by Trent Aitken-Smith, whick we found at the Natural History Museum of LA County’s Tattoo exhibition book store and gift shop, resonated with us:

“There are few insects in the animal kingdom that are looked on as favorably and positively as the bee. Attributes such as hard work, willpower and resilience sum up this little creature. It is easy to see why people in ancient cultures looked upon the seemingly tireless bee as messenger between mortals and the gods. Egyptians believed that bees were born from the tears of their sun god, Ra, and many Middle-Easter cultures views the bee as a symbol of eloquence and intelligence. In Hinduism, Kama, the good of love, has a bowstring made of bees, while Brahmari is the goddess of bees. Christianity also revered the bee as a symbol of Christ, honey being his mercy, the sting his justice. So popular is the little winged insect that you don’t have to travel far through any country’s culture before this humble creature makes an appearance.”

As we strive to be bee-like, we are thankful for our readers, sponsors, neighbors and community members who contribute so much to our journey. Happy Thanksgiving from our hive to yours! — L., P. & K.
