Historic aerial photos show the rapid growth of the Larchmont Village area in just 5 short years from 1921 to 1926.  The photo below shows the neighborhood before the Wilshire Country Club was built along Rossmore Boulevard.  At the time, Marlborough School was one of the few buildings in what would soon become Larchmont Village and Windsor Square.
In looking at the two photos below, it’s striking to see how many lots were developed and homes built, between the short period of 1921 and 1926 – just five years. Imagine the sound of construction at that point in time – it must have been deafening.
In September 1921 The Los Angeles Times reported that Julius La Bonte and Charles Ramson purchased 7 lots on Larchmont Boulevard to create a business district of 30 stores between First Street and Beverly Blvd. to serve the neighborhoods developing around it.  These photos are part of a forthcoming book from Arcadia Press on the history of Larchmont Blvd which will showcase many more photos from the early days of Larchmont Village.
