As most local residents know, coyotes have become very comfortable in our urban neighborhoods (we provide lots of food and shelter – what’s not to like?). But the sight of a coyote casually strolling along our block, or even – as in the photo above – lounging in our yard, can be at least a bit unnerving.
If you’d like to learn more about our wild neighbors, the United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council (which represents the communities of Harvard Heights, Arlington Heights, Jefferson Park and more), will host an online presentation titled “Take a (Virtual) Walk on the Wild Side with LA Animal Services” before its October board meeting tomorrow evening, October 6, starting at 6 p.m. via Zoom. City representatives will talk about why we see wild animals like coyotes in our neighborhoods, safety concerns, and what do do – and not do – when you encounter a coyote.
We’ve reported on urban coyotes before (see here, here, here and here for reports from a presentation co-sponsored by the Buzz), but this will be a great chance to get some updated information from the city, and to ask your own new questions, too.
And, of course, anyone who’s interested is also welcome to remain online after the presentation for the UNNC’s regularly schedule board meeting.

Your publication and reporters do good work! Interesting and varied material. Great coverage of local politicians and the issues. I am not in your neighborhood (am in Carthay Square), but would not miss an issue of The Buzz.
Thank you,

This was excellent. I went through all of the “here’s” from past presentations. They are well done and very informative. It left me feeling I understand the situation, how to prevent attracting them and what to do if there is an encounter. The best!!
Thank you very much for this information!
