Last week Larchmont Village residents on Lucerne and Arden Boulevards took a walk with LAPD officers from Wilshire Division to discuss neighborhood safety issues and get to know each other.
“The Lucerne Arden United (LAU) Walk With a Cop event was the direct, positive outgrowth of all the work my neighbor Clelia El Adl Clemens and I have done since “party house” days building a strong sense of community and an equally strong commitment to safety in our immediate neighborhood,” Lucerne resident Sam Uretsky told get Buzz. After many months of efforts and coordination with LAPD and the LA City Attorney’s office, residents were able to stop the owner of 310 N. Lucerne from renting out the property for large parties.
“We have built a very effective, responsive network of neighbors on the blocks of Lucerne and Arden between Beverly and Melrose,” explained Uretsky. “We have christened our area “Lucerne Arden United or LAU.”
Uretsky told the Buzz the walk was a great opportunity to meet LAPD officers in person and better acquaint them with our neighborhood and some the challenges we have been facing.
“Neighbors enjoyed the chance to have one-on-one conversations with and get first hand advice from LAPD in a friendly, non-emergency setting,” said Uretsky in a follow up message to Captain Monico.

Uretsky expressed his appreciation to Sergeant Sarno and SLO Cordova for helping to set up the walk and Deputy Chief Chow, Commander Tom, Lieutenant Ro, and SLO’s Dantzler and Roditis for taking time to join the walk.
“LAPD Wilshire Division is committed to helping LAU, and all other groups or neighborhoods that reach out to them,” Uretsky told the Buzz. “I highly recommend interested neighbors reach out to the leadership of Wilshire Division because they will work with you and take the problems you are facing seriously.”
Uretsky shared the following information with the Buzz for other residents interested in setting up walks on their blocks. For those who live in the Hancock Park and Larchmont Village are west of Larchmont, contact Senior Lead Officer Dave Cordova ([email protected]). If you’re not sure who the SLO is for your neighborhood, contact Sgt. Wesley Sarno, the coordinator of SLOs in Wilshire Division ([email protected])
LAU hopes to schedule another Walk with a Cop Event in several months. Residents interested in joining the walk can contact Sam at [email protected].
