Area Schools Celebrate API Gains

Wilshire Crest Elementary is located on Olympic Blvd between La Brea and Highland.

California’s Academic Performance Index (API) numbers for the 2011-2012 school year were released last week, and our Wilshire-area schools have much to celebrate.  All six of them met their yearly growth targets, and five of the six posted gains in their API.  The biggest winner was Wilshire Crest Elementary, which scored a whopping 54-point increase over the previous year.  Here are our local schools and their 2012 API scores:

Third Street Elementary – 948 (up 8 points from the previous year)
Van Ness Elementary – 850 (down 5 points)
Wilshire Crest Elementary – 812 (up 54 points)
Wilshire Park Elementary – 833 (up 13 points)
Wilton Place Elementary – 820 (up 13 points)
John Burroughs Middle School – 877 (up 31 points)

In fact, scores were up throughout Los Angeles this year.  Other nearby schools have much to celebrate, too.  They include:

Hancock Park Elementary – 912 (up 9 points)
Melrose Avenue Elementary – 881 (up 8 points)
Fairfax High School – 746 (up 15 points)
Los Angeles High School – 647 (up 10 points)

If you haven’t visited your neighborhood school lately, this would be a great time to do so — and to congratulate both students and staff on their achievements!
