The LA Times is reporting that the Cirque du Soleil show ‘Iris’ will be closing on January 19th due to poor ticket sales. The show made its home in the Dolby Theater at Hollywood and Highland since September 2011. The theater renovation and production costs reached as high as $100 Million, including a $30 Million loan made by the City of LA. City leaders are currently assessing both the City’s exposure on the loan and other financial impacts related to the premature closing.
Currently, the only other production that takes place in the Dolby Theater is the Academy Awards – taking place on February 24th next year. According to the LA Times, Councilman Eric Garcetti’s office reports that other productions have expressed interest in staging at the facility.
If you haven’t seen ‘Iris’, reviews have been positive. This might be a great holiday activity…according to the ‘Iris’ website 4 packs of tickets are available for a limited time for as low as $199. For tickets, click here.
