La Brea Bakery has the same familiar window, this time on the interior, but their new space at 460 S La Brea is a totally different experience, losing the cozy European feel of the quaint bake shop but gaining sunshine through large windows and ample table seating inside.
The new space opened for business on Saturday Jan 5th and has seen lines of loyal customers waiting for their favorite loaves, paninis, soups and salads. None of the baking is currently done on-site, but may be in the future as they plan to expand their operations south to take up the entire corner property at 6th and La Brea.

“We are in negotiations on the corner property, the former home of Rita Flora, to expand the operation and hopefully bring in the baking and a full size cafe,” Â Jennifer Johnson, marketing manager for the company told the Buzz. Apparently La Brea Bakery has applied for a full liquor permit, and will be making a presentation at a GWNC Land Use Committee meeting in the near future to try to secure the liquor license. La Brea Bakery is now owned by the international baking conglomerate Aryzta, so no word yet on what the new incarnation of an expanded restaurant may be.
