Editor’s note: We updated this story with a new photo showing the fully decorated tree.
On Wednesday morning volunteer leaders of the Larchmont Boulevard Association learned the Christmas tree they’d secured for the neighborhood shopping district had been stolen before they’d had a chance to decorate it.
John Winther, president of the LBA, sent out a message to the board asking if they should replace the tree. The Buzz is an active member of the LBA and this writer serves as the board’s secretary, so we replied and offered to pay for a replacement tree. But our offer was outdone by Wendy Clifford, who runs the Wilshire Rotary’s Christmas Tree lot on North Larchmont Blvd. Clifford offered to donate a tree and had one delivered by the end of the day. This time, Clifford had the able Christmas tree lot staff secure the tree with some cables, which should make it more secure and likely to stay through the holidays.
Bob Day, local realtor and member of the LBA board, started decorating last night with some ornaments and lights on the tree and the nearby hedges.
We spoke to Day this morning. He said he wasn’t able to finish but is hoping to get it done today, weather permitting. Day, a long time resident of the neighborhood whose office is also on Larchmont, can be found cleaning up the sidewalks and streets around the Coldwell Banker office with his colleagues every Friday morning.
