Larchmont Family Fair: A Showcase for Neighborhood Talent!

The annual Larchmont Family Fair, on Sunday, October 27, will have loads of fun activities for everyone.

This year’s Larchmont Family Fair, is coming up in two weeks on Sunday, October 27, from 12 Noon to 5:30 p.m…and organizers Betsy Malloy and Vivian Gueler have been hard at work arranging some wonderful family fun.

“We have the Bob Baker Marionettes making their Fair debut this year,” Gueler told the Buzz. “We have big expectations for Larchmont’s Got Talent, not to mention the costume contest, dance performances and the pie baking contest!”

“There will be lots of rides, games and other fun activities for kids of all ages.  There are a plethora of schools, non-profits, community service organizations that have already confirmed their booths, which really helps underwrite the cost of producing the fair,” added Gueler.  “And…the In & Out Burger truck will be returning this year!”

The beloved annual event, organized by the Larchmont Boulevard Association, draws more than 10,000 people to Larchmont Blvd., which is closed to traffic between First Stree and Beverly Boulevard on Fair day. But the Fair is more than just family fun – it’s also an opportunity to showcase some of the talent that lives in the neighborhood.

If music and dance are your thing, the Larchmont’s Got Talent show is looking for singers, musicians and dancers of all ages. In addition to bragging rights, there are also prizes. The First Prize is $500, Second Prize is $300 and Third Prize is $200.

“We have amazingly talented contestants last year,” said Jim Bloomfield, of Larchmont Traditional Medicine, who is coordinating the talent show. “Most people don’t realize this is a serious competition. We have qualified judges and prize money.”

Auditions are required. Open calls are this Sunday, October 13 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and next Sunday from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Coldwell Banker North office, 251 N. Larchmont Blvd. (at Beverly). Bring your instrument or music track; a keyboard will be provided.

“If you absolutely can not make one of the open calls, additional opportunities may be available during the week of October 14,” said Bloomfield. For more information, contact him at [email protected]. The Talent Show will take place on Sunday, October 27, from 2:30-4:30 PM on the Larchmont Family Fair Stage.

Janet Loveland, Sue Carr and Anne Loveland with last year’s pie contest entries.

If you prefer baking to performing, the Loveland Carr Group is sponsoring the Fair’s 2nd Annual Pie Baking Contest.

“We have three terrific local residents to judge the contest: Phil Cochran, from Vernetti; and Daphne Brogdon and Mark Peel, co-owners of Prawn restaurants (Central Market downtown & Old Town Pasadena). Brogdon recently appeared on “Beat Bobby Flay,” so we are really excited about the contest,” Anne Loveland told the Buzz.

There are three categories for bakers: “Tiny Pies” for kids 12 and under; “Teeny Pies” for 13- to 19-year-olds; and “Tempting Pies” for adult bakers.  According to Loveland, the judges will make their selection based on overall presentation, tastiness and the name of the pie.

Winners will be announced around 1 p.m. – before “Larchmont’s Got Talent” and after the children’s costume contest. Do note, though, that bakers must be present to win. Visit Loveland Carr’s website for more information on the contest and baking tips.

The Larchmont Buzz is proud to join other local businesses to support the Larchmont Boulevard Association’s largest annual event. See you at the Fair!
