New Signs Posted in Area Neighborhoods

In Windsor Village, the Historic Preservation district signs are finally posted in and around the 1920’s community that harbors both the Ebell Club and the United Methodist Church. Securing HPOZ status in 2010 was a neighborhood-initiated coup that is helping preserve the lovely tree-lined Windsor Village community.  Without the tireless efforts of Windsor Boulevard resident Allison Sapunor, however, the signs may never have been posted. She worked steadily with Councilman Herb Wesson’s office to get the City to produce and erect the signs which now hang proudly throughout the community.

The North Windsor Neighborhood Watch Program was implemented on North Windsor Blvd. from Beverly to Melrose thanks to the determined efforts of resident Fred Marsical. For the past year he has helped organize the street into a working watchdog on crime, involving households in training and coordination with the assistance of  LAPD Officer Pelayo.

Marsical asked Paramount Studios to donate funds for the signs, and they contributed $1245 toward producing and installing the Neighborhood Watch signs. For other communities interested in establishing a Neighborhood Watch program see the LAPD site, or visit the North Windsor Neighborhood Watch Facebook page.

Along Western Ave. the LAPD helped the City quickly install no right turn signs for traffic going north and south along the avenue. This was in response to the neighborhood meetings calling for action to close down prostitution that has been occurring along the side streets off Western.

Thanks to Councilman Tom LaBonge and his office as well as the LAPD Olympic Division, the signs were installed quite quickly after the January 2012 meetings, and have allowed LAPD to pull-over cars cruising Western late at night that turn off onto the darkened side streets seeking illegal late night ‘activities.’
