New Temporary Reporting System for Illegal Fireworks

Over the last few years, we’ve heard increasing numbers of residents complaining about illegal fireworks that disrupt local neighborhoods, scare pets, and create safety concerns – not just on the Fourth of July, but often on many other holidays (and non-holidays) as well.  And police have been able to do little or nothing about the problem unless they can catch someone in the fleeting act of setting off the illegal explosives (which is rare).  But today there’s some good news for those who’d like to help stem the tide of unauthorized big bangs.  Starting on Wednesday, December 1st, and continuing through Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 (a period that does include New Year’s Eve – perhaps the second biggest fireworks holiday of the year), the LAPD Communications Division will launch a trial online reporting system for illegal fireworks.    According to the LAPD Communications Division:

At the direction of the City Council, the Information Technology Agency (ITA) and the [Los Angeles Police] Department will provide a system for the public to report illegal fireworks via a direct website link.

The service will begin Wednesday, December 21, 2021 at 0600 hours, and will conclude on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 0800 hours.  The online option will be publicized via Department Social Media websites, on the Automated Call Distribution recordings for 9-1-1, (877) ASK-LAPD, and other non-emergency call queues in both English and Spanish, and other outlets.

Community members may report the activity of illegal fireworks in process at:

https://lapdonline.org/fireworks

So be sure to bookmark the link and keep it handy for the upcoming holidays. We’re pretty sure you’ll get a chance to use it.
