Depending on when you were on Larchmont yesterday, you might have seen temporary “No Parking” signs saying the street would be closed to parking all day Sunday.
It turns out the signs were a mistake. Only one parking space will be closed, the one between the entrance and exit of the City parking lot, for the Larchmont Sunday Farmers Market. The market has expanded a bit in recent weeks and added back several vendors, who are now located in that space on the street.
But instead of marking one spot, it seems LA Department of Transportation (DOT) got a little over zealous, placing signs up and down the entire street. When a merchant notified us and we looked into the matter, we were told about the error by CD4 Field Deputy Rob Fisher, who said all requests for street closures are approved by the council office.
In the meantime, Heather Boylston, Co-Executive Director of the Larchmont Village Business Improvement District (BID), was already on the matter. Boylston told the Buzz that once she learned the City had mistakenly put up the signs Friday morning, on both sides of Larchmont, she went over and took down all the signs because DOT was already closed for the day.
“I did have permission from CD4 Field Deputy Rob Fisher,” Boylston told us. “The mistake was that the  Farmers Market had pulled a permit for a spot right in front of the market and they (LADOT) made a mistake and did the whole street.”
Concerned that some people may have seen the signs, thought there will be no parking on Larchmont this Sunday, and possibly planned to avoid the street, Boylston asked us to share the sign mix-up story with readers.
By mid-afternoon yesterday, when we were on Larchmont, all the signs were in their proper places, including the one Boylston put up as requested by the Farmers Market…which, ironically was the one place LADOT did not put a sign.
So in case you were wondering, Larchmont is open for business as usual on Sunday, with all the usual parking except one space for the Larchmont Farmers Market, which is now a bit larger as they welcome back a few more vendors.
