The City Council approved the Cooper Wire Theft Reward motion for Council District 4 on January 4, 2013. The motion was originally introduced by Councilmember Tom LaBonge in early December. An aggregate sum of $25,000 was allotted for this reward.
Councilmember Tom LaBonge offered the following friendly amendment to the motion which Councilmember Englander approved:
- Reward not to exceed $2,000.00 per incident that leads to a conviction in a cooper wire theft in Council District #4 only.
- The reward will be paid out of the Street Lighting Maintenance Assessment Fund as opposed to the General Fund.
