Shopping Larchmont and Local for Holidays

Shop local this holiday and support our neighborhood small businesses

Christmas is just six days away, and if you’re like us, there’s still some last minute shopping to be done. We’d like to suggest you shop local and support our Larchmont businesses. Shopping local is convenient and benefits our neighborhood because it keeps the dollars local.

Check out our Buzz Shopping Guide where you are sure to find something for everyone on your list, whether it’s from Larchmont’s Chevalier’s Books, Center for Yoga, Tailwaggers, Alexander Daas Opticians, Landis Gifts and Stationery, Village Heights, Vernetti Restaurant, Majestic Time Piece Watch and Jewelry Repair, Shopaholic Sample Sales or Larchmont Traditional Medicine. Or just a short distance away, check out the Original Farmers Market, Du-Par’s Bakery and Restaurant, and Monsieur Marcel, which all offer great holiday treats. Or check out offerings from some of our neighborhood favorite businesses that are online or operate out of someone’s home, like the exquisite French tableware from Catherine Giraud of Lavender Blue.

Shopping on Larchmont can be fun too. Rothy’s told us it’s offering special holiday cookies everyday until it runs out, and there will a coffee cart on Friday from 12-2p.m., no purchase necessary!

You can also save some money. Alex Feldman, founder and CEO of Alexander Daas Opticians said this is a great time of year to use those HSA and FSA ‘Flex’ dollars that would otherwise expire at the end of the year to purchase sunglasses or eyeglasses.

“So many people come rushing to us last minute to use up their unused Flex Dollars and treat themselves to eyewear. And so many more people don’t know this is an option and lose these hard-earned dollars,” Feldman told the Buzz.

Finally, if you’ve been holding out to get a tree, there are still lots of trees at the Wilshire Rotary’s Christmas Tree lot on Larchmont. Sorry to report the wreathes and garlands are gone now, but there are still lots of beautiful trees — Noble and Douglas Firs, as well as those super cool Silver Tip trees. Also, if you mention the Larchmont Buzz — get 10% off your tree. The last day to get a tree is Thursday. so head over there soon. It’s a good deed, too, because proceeds from the lot support the local and international charities of Rotary.

Your support means a lot to our local businesses, all of which are also locally owned. And we hear that from business owners even if they’re not still on Larchmont. We talked to George Hilario, owner of the Larchmont Barbershop, over the weekend. Almost exactly a year ago, Hilario moved off Larchmont to his new location on Fairfax Avenue. He wanted to let us know that he really appreciates all the support he’s had from customers who have followed him to his new location. He sent us this photo in front of his new shop at 401 1/2 S. Fairfax Avenue to share with Buzz readers.

So start your shopping on Larchmont and in the neighborhood and tell the merchants we sent you!
