There are a number of public meetings coming up in the next week on a variety of local issues.

Tonight at 6 p.m., there’s another LA City Council Redistricting Commission meeting, and then at 6:30 p.m. the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council is having its monthly meeting.

But also, Tomorrow, Thursday, October 14, the Department of City Planning will present the new Housing Element of the City’s General Plan to the City Planning Commission. This weekend there’s a walk with LADOT…and next week there’s a meeting on the construction project at John Burroughs Elementary school.

Read on for details. And the, if you have time, hop on Zoom and check out one or more meetings, it’s the best way, other than reading the Buzz, to find out what’s going on and share your thoughts!

Housing Element
The City Planning Department will present the new Housing Element of the City’s General Plan, also known as The Plan to House LA, at the City Planning Commission (CPC) meeting on October 14.

The document reflects the department’s efforts to address the city’s housing shortage. Under the plan, the Department of City Planning would work with community groups over the next three years to rezone parts of the city to accommodate at least 255,415 new housing units needed to address the current housing shortage and plan for future housing needs.

According to the department, “the recommended plan takes bold steps to address patterns of segregation and exclusion by proposing an equitable rezoning strategy, along with a variety of policies and programs to meet our housing needs in a way that will advance a more equitable distribution of affordable housing, strengthen tenant protections, and support the preservation of existing affordable housing.”

The City Planning Commission meeting will be held by teleconference starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 14. The agenda is posted on City Planning’s website.  You can also join the meeting via Zoom at https://planning-lacity-org.zoom.us/j/85984699942, using Meeting ID 849 6500 5926 and Meeting Passcode 377316. Transportation
On  Saturday, October 16th, there will be a  Central LA “Connect the Green Challenge” neighborhood walk.
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) is hosting bike rides and walks to better understand the barriers people face to bicycling and walking on local streets.  The ‘Connect the Green Challenge‘ is part of LADOT’s Planning for Stress Free Connections, where LADOT is identifying locations for street design solutions to calm traffic and increase safe connections to help Angelenos walk and bike comfortably to where they want to go.  Last weekend, the department hosted a bike ride; this Saturday, it’s planning a neighborhood walk on 4th Street.
