Vincent Hair Artistry has relocated to Salon Republic at the Arclight Theatre Center in Hollywood, after plans to re-open on Larchmont collapsed. We spoke to Vincent De Marco this week, and he told us that he was deep into plans and financial commitments to move his hair salon to the west side of Larchmont Blvd., in the former Blends Shoe store location at 141 N Larchmont, after he was forced out of his shop when construction began on the former Lipson building.
“We had developed plans for the build out and were through the first round of approvals with the city,” explained De Marco. When the approval process started to drag on, however, and the building owner’s representative became unresponsive to requests for more paperwork, DeMarco started to reevaluate his decision to take on more debt during the pandemic.
“I was concerned about the rising COVID-19 infection rates and subsequent closures that really hurt hair salons, the slow roll out of the vaccines, the amount of debt I would be taking on the re-open, and decided it didn’t make financial sense to invest all that money in a build out and rent that might take years to recover,” explained De Marco. “I am deeply disappointed that I can’t be back on Larchmont. I always felt it was such a privilege to take over the former Haas Salon which had a wonderful reputation and serve the Larchmont and Hancock Park community.”
De Marco also told us the Larchmont building owner has refused to return some of the substantial money he invested in the move. It’s another financial setback, he said, but he’s still optimistic that he can get back to work and start moving forward again.
Meanwhile, Nick Moses will be joining De Marco in the new space he’s leasing at Salon Republic, which De Marco said is like an office suite for hair dressers.
“The space is great. We have a wonderful view and we are very excited to welcome customers,” said De Marco. “Hopefully, I will get back to Larchmont one of these days. I really hope I can.”
