Land Use and Zoning in Hancock Park
We participated in community meetings on how to mitigate the impact on the surrounding residents and community of two major proposed TOC developments: 1) Highland and Wilshire; and 2) 401 N. Rossmore. The HOA supports the residents and surrounding community in opposing the current proposal for the reconstruction of the current affordable housing at 410 N. Rossmore.
We continue our outreach to the community to inform residents about Sacramento’s proposed R-1 neighborhood-destroying zoning laws SB 9 and SB10 – which contain no affordable housing components. Learn more about these bills here.
Restoring Safety and Security
We continue requesting an action plan from CD4 Council Office for 1) Enforcement and removal/fence/cleanup of derelict buildings on June/Rimpau and McCaddden; and 2) Removal of the encampment on Wilshire Blvd. next to John Burroughs Middle School.
Preserving our Urban Canopy
Highland Median – We trimmed all the young palm trees that were installed in 2019 and continued monitoring the irrigation and trash removal of our community median.
Tree Planting and Stump Removal – We developed and implemented an action plan with Urban Forestry to remove tree stumps and prepare to replant parkway trees. Planting of the new trees will begin again this fall.
Neighborhood Schools
We are working with leadership at Yavneh on renovations and coordinating with LAUSD and the neighborhood on the John Burroughs Middle School new construction plan. We are working to help mitigate impacts of neighborhood residents.
Infrastructure Repairs in our Neighborhood
We met with the new StreetsLA Director to discuss restarting our comprehensive repair plan for concrete streets, sidewalks, and ADA curb installation. The repair plan, which had been developed with the Director of Streets LA, neighborhood participation, and the prior administration has been stalled. However, we are hopeful that we will be able to restart repairs on our Worst Streets First plan soon. We continue to encourage our Council Office leadership to work with the HOA. We recently received an update from CD4 leadership that the continuation of the sidewalk along Beverly, between Rossmore and June, will not be funded.
Transportation and Traffic
Unified neighborhoods! The Windsor Square HOA joined Hancock Park in support of Hancock Park’s Reasonable, Thoughtful, Inclusive Plan for 4th Street. Also, a new pedestrian “island” will be installed on 3rd Street, between McCadden and Las Palmas, for safer crossing.
