There’s a team of young entrepreneurs on North Larchmont these days who seem to shine as brightly as the large-size prints they have stacked in their new studio shop. Â Weston Dixon and J.R. Riggins have leased the corner space at Rosewood on Larchmont and are intent on getting art – your art – up on the walls. The Canvas Shop prints photographs onto canvas, anything from an 8×8 inch canvas to a 3×5 foot print. “Whether it’s a professional photograph, an Instagram pic you snapped on your phone, or an old photo you pulled out of the closet, we can take care of you”, says Weston.
Weston and J.R. ran their business from a studio in downtown LA for several years and have already printed canvases for thousands of Angelenos, as well as fine artists such as the quirky Liz Huston, and the award-winning photographer Edward Duarte. With business thriving, but little foot traffic or store visibility downtown, the guys began looking for a location that allowed them more exposure.
“Larchmont was our first choice” says J.R., “But nothing was available.” They were looking for storefronts in other neighborhoods when the building on Larchmont, formerly home of Salon Melange, suddenly hit the market. “We swept in and scooped it up in a matter of days” J.R. told the Buzz. Weston lives just a few blocks away so they know the community well, have met many of their business neighbors, and even hosted a barbecue last Saturday night to celebrate the opening. The Canvas Shop team renovated the two story building, building the furniture they work on and painting over the lilac walls with fresh white paint.
Weston’s experience in printing and J.R.’s business and design background are a great match for the Canvas Shop. The team invites the Larchmont community to drop into the shop to see the process, and maybe even snoop around a bit at what other people are printing. It just may inspire you to scroll through some of those photos on your computer and find the one that shows what a great photographer you really are.
