We love writing about the next generation of homegrown artists. This week we spoke with local singer/songwriter Christina Martino, who will be performing with her band at Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the ’70s style disco at The Line Hotel in Koreatown.
Martino was selected to perform with her band by Breaking Sound, an entertainment company that showcases young emerging talent. Joining Martino are artists Love, Alexa, Devan and Super Space Nation.
According to Breaking Sound LA:
“With a combined total of 232k monthly listeners, Christina Martino drawing from the soulful vocals of Bonnie Raitt, the storytelling of Sara Bareilles, and the hooky melodies of Meghan Trainor, Love, Alexa weaving vintage vocals with modern production, Super Space Nation taking inspiration from the radio rock of the past and the synth pop of the present while holding onto family ties as brothers, and Devan embracing her authentic sound while her evocative vocals remain a constant throughout her work — this is a line-up surely not to be missed.”
“It’s very exciting,” Martino told the Buzz. This is her first opportunity to perform since the pandemic shutdown nearly two years ago.
A graduate from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Martino graduated during the pandemic and moved to LA where she has family and spent every summer with her grandparents. Martino will performing her own music, a mix of soul and funk.
“My songs are mostly positive messages about things I’m struggling with, like frustration about the pandemic,” explained Martino, who has been singing since she was in 4th grade. “My songs are coming from a positive place.”
You can check out her music in person on Wednesday night, when she will perform a set of her original music at 7:30 p.m. Click here for information and tickets. You can also find her on Spotify and Instagram.
