The Los Angeles Parks Foundation announced plans today to set up a memorial fund in honor of former Councilmember Tom LaBonge, who was passionate about the city’s parks, especially Griffith Park where he would hike daily.
LA Parks Foundation Executive Director Carolyn Ramsay told the Buzz the fund follows the wishes of the LaBonge family and was created in consultation with the Mayor’s office and City’s Department of Recreation and Parks.
“The LA Parks Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Tom LaBonge Memorial Fund for Griffith Park. This special fund will celebrate Tom’s enduring leadership and legacy in the park he visited nearly everyday. Plans are currently underway to establish a memorial site and plant new trees, among other park enhancements,” wrote Ramsay in an LA Parks Foundation email message this morning.
