Talented local, Amanda Kim is competing as “Hancock Park Teen” for Miss California Teen USA 2013 this weekend in Pasadena. This is her first pageant and needless to say, family and friends are pretty excited!
Kim is an 18 year-old freshman at USC, focusing on creative writing. The Kim family moved to Hancock Park from Wellesley, Massachusetts last year to be near family. Her mom, Anne thought that entering her in a pageant might be a good way to instill confidence. Although it was all a surprise to Amanda, she took it well and knew she had the resume to compete.
Amanda Kim’s skills include proficiency in art and poetry. Having started painting a year ago, her professors nicknamed her “Little Van Gogh.” She’s also worked with young children in Peru, helping to build a school house. And her nautical skills helped her to teach inner-city children how to sail and lessons in water safety.
The Kim family is approaching the pageant as one more fun experience in Amanda’s life. Although the build up to the pageant is full of hard work and preparation, this weekend gives Amanda an opportunity to rise to the occasion and show everyone what she’s all about. The pageant takes place this weekend at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The Presentation Show is on Saturday at 2PM and the Finals are on Sunday at 11AM.
The Miss California Teen USA pageant is part of the Miss Universe Organization, owned by Donald Trump. The winner of this pageant continues on to the Miss Teen USA pageant later this year.

Amanda, I really enjoyed looking at the artwork you’ve created! You have a lot of talent, and your work shows it. I’m sure you can do anything you want in the future, but if you choose to make art a part of your life, I have no doubt you will be recognized for that work. It looks like you’re a very nice young person, with a lot to offer, I wish you luck in this competition and in whatever you choose to do in the future!
The picture of you is beautiful, I like that you look natural, and lovely at the same time.
Best of Luck!
