Holiday Cheer on Larchmont

Larchmont is looking a little more festive these days, thanks to the handiwork of Dr. Tim Gogan, a local dentist who’s been decorating the street and various homes in the neighborhood for years. Gogan is a lot more than your average dentist – he’s also very creative and more than willing to share his talent with friends and neighborhoods in the Larchmont community.

“I have been doing decorations for fun since I was 8,” Gogan told the Buzz today. “My dad showed me how to make a wreath with a coat hanger but when I was 9, my mom took me down to Moskatels, when it was just a single store, I discovered green wire and all kinds of decorative elements.”

When he was young, Gogan worked for his parents in their flower shop in West Hollywood and would decorate on the side. In dental school he studied with veneers, but that work was never seen by anyone but him and the patient, he explained.

“I used to give away wreathes while I was in dental school.” said Gogan.

Once he started to practice dentistry on Larchmont, Gogan got involved in the Larchmont Boulevard Association and began helping with holiday decorations.

At one time, he even did all the holiday decorating for local stores, including Robert Grounds, now the home of Buck Mason’s corporate office, which was a favorite of locals known for their exquisite home decor.

Gogan would do dental work during the week and decorate houses and shops on the weekend. He even staged houses for realtor friends, drawing on his experience doing set decoration with his family.

Our thanks to Gogan for kicking off the holiday spirit…and also to Todd Warner at Tailwaggers, for installing decorations and tree lights in advance of the store’s big holiday event, Santa Paws and Mrs. Claws, which is coming up on Saturday, December 4…with 10 tons of snow!

Stay tuned to the Buzz for more details on upcoming holiday celebrations!
