A group of local business executives during the week become tennis warriors on the weekend, and they recently made a strong showing at several local amateur tennis tournaments representing the now 100 year old Los Angeles Tennis Club.
Ivan Fatovic, who serves as the captain of the LATC’s Men’s 4.0 USTA team, told the Buzz about the results from the team’s most recent match at the storied Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Palm Springs last weekend.
“We had to play the eventual champions San Gabriel Vally and narrowly lost 2-1 to them. In the afternoon we defeated Santa Barbara 3-0. Strong performances by: Austen Earl, Albert Chou, Jason Brown, myself, Chris Riley, Brian Cheng, and an upcoming new member, Rehan Chaudhry. We were one point away from reaching the semifinal!” Ivan Fatovic, Team Captain told the Buzz.
“It was a dream to play on the same courts that Roger, Novak, Rafa, and Serena will be playing on next month,” Fatovic told the Buzz. “The weather was perfect. The courts are in top shape as they’re preparing for the big tournament already, and we all had a blast. Next year we plan to win it all, just like we did with my 4.5 team a couple weeks ago.”
In January, Fatovic’s Men’s 4.5 team won the USTA Southern California Sectionals Tournament in San Diego, besting teams from all over Southern California. The team now has bragging rights as the best 4.5 Doubles Team in Southern California.
Captain Ivan Fatovic guided the squad, composed of LATC Members and local residents, deftly navigating the most strategic placement of his players and bringing out their best efforts.
“It wasn’t easy, six guys playing 4 matches over 2 days, but the LATC Fall 4.5 Men’s USTA Team prevailed at sectionals to claim the title of #1 Doubles Squad in Southern California!!! This was a true team effort since last September,” said Fatovic.
