Melrose Elementary Teacher in Great American Teach-Off

Melrose-ElementaryMs. Sachiko Miyaji, a second grade teacher at Melrose Elementary School is one of 20 finalists in the Great American Teach-Off competition that will award two teachers a $10,000 grant for use in the classroom.

Melrose Elementary is a Math Science Technology Magnet and Miyaji’s program inspires kids to build, create, design, and problem-solve, taking her young students through grown-up solutions like the Engineering Design Process to learn how things work. Miyaji describes it best herself in the short video below when reponding to the question “How are you an innovative teacher?”

Finalists are now competing for public votes to win the award, which would go directly to use in the Melrose classroom. Voting is relatively simple, but you do have to sign into the Good.is website  – “A global community of people who give a damn”. Good.is appears to be a new-fangled meld of PR firm with business ventures brought together on a social network platform. But if our single votes can help Melrose Elementary win $10K it’s a small price to pay. You can vote once a day and voting ends March 10th:  click on the K-6 link on the Good.is website to vote.

  1. Very cool feature… our teachers are generally under-recognized for all they do to develop the future. Cheers to our teachers!
