Wilshire Park Resident Diana Nyad Completes Her Extreme Dream

Nyad.

Larchmont area residents watched the news of Diana Nyad completing her epic swim from Cuba to Key West this week with a mixture of awe and pride – particularly since she he lives locally in the Wilshire Park area.

Nyad, a National Public Radio contributor, author, and avid swimmer, finished the 53 hour marathon swim avoiding jellyfish and sharks, fighting fatigue and cold, and becoming the first individual to successfully swim (without shark cage) the 110 mile course. It is a feat of determination, training and guts that spanned five attempts over 35 years. What an inspiration.

While Nyad trained in the “gutter lane” of the 50 meter pool at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, we understand she’s proud to call Wilshire Park, just south of Wilshire Blvd and east of Crenshaw, her home.
