Jacqueline Becker always knew she wanted to be a musician from the time she was a child surrounded by music. Classically trained at Yale School of Music, Becker was pursuing a successful career as a songwriter, pop artist, and music executive in Los Angeles when she had her first child. Like many new moms, Becker started looking for children’s music for her new baby and got inspired to write some of her own.
Exposed to a wide variety of musical influences including her mother’s band and her own explorations of classical, jazz, and a cappella during her time at Yale University, Becker’s music appeals to listeners of all ages. Performing as Mama B, she brings a level of sophistication to her music just as you would expect from someone with early two decades as an artist, producer, and publisher reaching audiences through film and television.
“I want this music to be fun and silly,” Becker told the Buzz. “I hope it will resonate with everyone.”
Her first solo album follows the success of her 2021 collaborative children’s album, “Zoology,” credited to Mama B & Uncle T which has amassed over 50 million-plus streams and over 14 million YouTube streams.
As her son has gotten older, her musical journey has evolved too. He’s into music too and is featured as a guest artist on her album. Now, she has another son and a second career as an artist as well as a music executive.
Becker told us she loves living in Larchmont Village on what she considers the very best block.
“It’s always been my dream to live here,” said Becker.
You can meet her and hear her music this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Chevalier’s Books.
Puffer Fish is Mama B’s latest single.
