If you drive La Brea with any regularity, you’ll notice that there’s a lot of new construction going on. All of a sudden, La Brea corners look to be hot property as we head into 2012! We count 5 projects underway – with the potential for more coming.

Northwest corner of Melrose and La Brea – Chipotle

Northwest corner of Santa Monica and La Brea – Mixed Use Residential/Retail

Southeast corner of Fountain and La Brea – Mixed Use/Residential/Retail

And a few other projects are bubbling up…

  • the southeast corner of 6th and La Brea (formerly an antique yard/2nd home to Rita Flora) – property is currently being cleaned up for future development
  • the southwest corner of Melrose and La Brea (currently a Chevron station) – property is for lease and could potentially be developed as something other than a gas station

Add that to the renaissance going on in the new La Brea walking district between 1st Street and 2nd Street – and you’ve got a lot of new reasons for rubber-necking on La Brea. Definitely be alert, pull over, park and explore.

If you use the street for commuting north-south between the 101 and mid-Wilshire – start looking for alternative routes. The density is steadily creeping up…
