String of Burglaries in Larchmont Village

Crime. It seems as if our neighborhood has been besieged of late and we’re posting too many stories about burglaries, hot prowls, shootings and situations that we don’t really want to write about. Yet, we feel it’s important to know what’s happening on our streets. Not to fan the flames of fear, but to give as many people as possible the information so that these crimes can be solved, or future crimes deterred.

Most recent reports site a string of three burglaries on Bronson north of Beverly, south of Clinton that all occurred on Friday, June 1st in the late afternoon/early evening. Alarms on the homes were set and all doors and windows were locked, yet the burglars were brazen enough in all cases to break windows and glass doors to gain entry and ransack the homes. In one case, they came in through an unlocked back window.  Jewelry and small items were stolen.

At one of the locations, a neighbor across the street saw two African American guys, late teens-early 20’s, knock on the door.  They were believed to be driving a grey 4 door Camry with tinted windows, and to have quickly jumped over the 6 foot high driveway gate, although the neighbor did not see this. At 3 pm the same afternoon another resident saw a similarly described duo look over the driveway gate and ring the bell at a house on Plymouth Blvd south of Beverly. Children and a nanny were playing in a nearby yard however, which may have discouraged the burglars in that case.

This is just another reminder that it may take a ‘village’ to live in the city. Keep alert, be aware of suspicious cars and individuals who may be ‘scoping’ out your street, and report them immediately to the LAPD at 911, or via the Olympic Division desk at 213-382-9102 or the Wilshire Division desk at 213-473-0476.
