Chevalier’s Books Now on the Web

Browsing the shelves at Chevalier's Books

It’s a rare site in today’s world: an active bookstore with titles stacked on the shelves.

Chevalier’s Books, the beloved Larchmont Boulevard bookstore, has long been the go-to spot for Hancock Park residents looking for advice on what to read, schmoozing with neighbors, or pouring over the latest in children’s books. The way the book industry has dwindled in the last few years, many may not realize what a unique treasure Chevalier’s is to Larchmont Village – one of a handful of independent bookstores still standing in Los Angeles.

But Chevalier’s realized they have to get on the digital book bandwagon, and eBooks can only be sold online. Hence Chevalier’s  has teamed up with book distributor Baker & Taylor to provide eBooks for readers using their Kindles, iPads and Nooks to read: all online now at Chevalier’s online store.

According to a Book Industry Study Group study released in January 2012, the growth of e-books was slower than expected in 2011, being “incremental not exponential” with a growth of 17% for the year. However, e-books now make up a full 26 percent of adult fiction purchases, and even at the slower growth rate it’s obvious where we’re headed. Perhaps as expected, e-books make up 11 percent of children’s book purchases and only 3 percent of cookbook purchases.

So now you can finally order your books, both paper and digital,  via Chevalier’s online. Bookmark their URL (https://chevaliersbooks.mybooksandmore.com/MBM/screens/index.jsp)  so you’ll buy from Chevalier’s online instead of Amazon. In doing so, you’ll help keep Chevalier’s a hub of intellectual and social interaction – another thing that makes our neighborhood special.

Note: online orders cannot be picked up at the store, they will be shipped to you directly. You can still phone Chevalier’s directly and they’ll order any book for you, which you can pick up later in the store. Tel: 323-465-1334.
