Tell It Like It Was

Do you know of a special place that has architectural, historical, social, or cultural significance in your neighborhood?  SurveyLA, the Los Angeles Historic Resources Survey has just launched MyHistoricLA.org, a new website to invite community input on important historic resources and  sites deserving of preservation in our communities. The information will be used by professional survey teams as they systematically conduct field surveys over a multi-year period.

MyHistoricLA.org is currently engaging in the following conversations…

  • Can you tell us about a place in your neighborhood that makes it special?
  • Can you identify and tell us about a club house or meeting hall that played an important role in Los Angeles history?
  • Do you know the location and story of any buildings, structures, or landscapes associated with the agricultural history of the San Fernando Valley?
  • What Los Angeles neighborhood do you think is the best example of Post WWII residential development and suburbanization?

It’s easy to sign in and join the citywide conversation. You don’t have to give a lot of information – just anything you know that might make the site interesting in a historical context. Others will be able to add on to what you contribute, and give the Survey LA staff a place to start when doing their on-site visits to neighborhoods throughout LA.

Please also spread the word — through posts, tweets or old-fashioned emails — to all of your friends and neighbors who care about Los Angeles’ history and architecture.

SIGN ON TO MyHistoricLA  – and as they say “think broadly about places that shaped Los Angeles and give your community its distinct character. We hope your responses will spark memories, ideas, and conversations.” Be the one to set a spark – and help perpetuate and celebrate the history of Los Angeles and its unique neighborhoods.
