It’s almost becoming as ubiquitous for burgers in LA as Johnny Rockets –Umami Burger is opening another shop, this time in the Grove. You may have seen the renovation underway tucked beside the looming parking garage, but now you can see inside the space thanks to great photo coverage from Eater LA. You should be able to get your Umami fix at the Grove beginning August 1st.
Umami founder Adam Fleischman launched his “fine-dining fast food” concept in 2009. He seems to have more than just burgers on the grill though, and his new venture teams up with L.A. Creamery Artisan Ice Cream to forever alter how we think of ice cream flavors. The new ice cream, offered at Umami Burger and by mail-order, is pushing the envelope of sweet and savory combinations including flavors like “Porc Phat” that features Spanish Iberico lardo (that’s a sort of bacon), asian pears, hazelnuts and mint. Other flavors include “Boozy Breakfast”, a coffee liqueur and crunchy cereal combination, and “Mezcal” infused with Mezcal and orange liqueur followed by a peppery aftertaste. This guy is really pushing the limits of our culinary palettes – but if you think you can do better LA Creamery also has an option for you to create your own flavor.
