With the LAUSD Choices applications for magnet schools due on December 16, Melrose Math/Science/ Technology Magnet School has joined other area schools in scheduling pre-application tours for prospective parents.
Melrose, located at 731 N. Detroit St., 90046, launched its magnet program, based on an innovative  STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum,  two years ago…and has since experienced a 158-point gain in its API score. 82% of the school’s students now test Advanced or Proficient in mathematics. (And unlike many other schools, where changes in the student body have helped to boost test scores after conversion to magnet status, Melrose realized its rapid  gains while retaining 96% of its pre-magnet student body.) The school held two parent tours in November, and will conduct a third tour on December 7, from 9-10:30 a.m.
