St. Brendan School will host a “Christmas Boutique” on Friday, December 2, 2011 at St. Brendan Parish Center, located at 238 S. Manhattan Place. The event will offer the community an opportunity to shop for holiday gifts while supporting the school and local non-profit organizations such as HandCrafting Justice, providing access to Fair Trade markets for enterprising women in the developing world to lift themselves out of poverty through the creation of unique handmade goods.
HandCrafting Justice is a project of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. By fostering self-reliance, ensuring fair wages, and building support networks, the organization offers far more than Fair Trade: HandCrafting Justice promotes human dignity by empowering women to overcome social and economic injustice.
Sister Anne of Good Shepherd Sisters notes, “We have been coming to the St. Brendan Boutique for years with beautiful smocked holiday dresses, toys and Christmas items made by women around the world. We are grateful to the St. Brendan community for providing a lovely venue to support our effort.”
“We are always delighted to share our event with local non-profits such as HandCrafting Justice, Alexandria House and Homeboy Industries,” says Boutique Coordinator, Gretchen DiStefano. “While our vendors provide a percentage of all sales from the event to our school, we recognize it is our responsibility to share our space with our community non-profits.”
