Hollywood Fringe Festival: The Final Countdown

The Fringe Festival winds down along with the month, with final performances on June 30. Here are some to consider checking out.

In the interactive The Best Man Show, Mark Vigeant plays the groom’s brother asked to give a toast at a polyamorous commitment ceremony. Three performances remain at The Broadwater (Studio); click here for more information.

Sunita Param of Larchmont was awarded Best of Asylum 2024 for her show Sunita: Back To Me. (The show is produced at a member of the Asylum group of theaters.) There’s one more performance, this Sunday. Click here for more information.

The Connie Converse Universe explores the songs, the life and the mystery of the first modern-day female folk singer-songwriter, Connie Converse, whose songs written in the 1950s helped pave the way for future singer-songwriters of the 1960s—until she disappeared without a trace 50 years ago. Singer-songwriter Hope Levy performs Connie’s songs in her live acoustic show. Two performances remain; tickets are available here.

Edgar Allen Poe gets two, count ‘em, Fringe shows, and each has only one performance left. The Paranoia of Poe offers readings of three Poe classics, with music and dance, from The L.A. Troupe, a classical theater company that tours schools. Also addressing Poe is The NightDream, a solo show about a Mexican writer who, suffering writer’s block, turns to Poe’s characters  to help tell his stories.

The Heavens’ Favorite Murderess is none other than Medea. What makes her so special to the gods? This immersive adaptation will answer that question while challenging our own ideas of justice. One performance remains; tickets are available here.

Two performances remain of Whim, a 1783-set farcical fable about a hot-air balloon, a duck, a sheep, a rooster, Marie Antoinette, a hunter, a royal footman, the mysterious forest near the Palace of Versailles and everything that could possibly go terribly wrong.

A one-hour staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream has a rotating cast and two remaining performances. (If you want the full experience under the midsummer night stars, check out Theatricum Botanicum’s annual version, playing through Sept. 23 at the open-air theater.)

Finally, if you’re processing grief and looking for healing, there are a few shows on that theme to consider. Each has one remaining performance.
