Bits of Larchmont Buzz – Oakberry Açaí Open, Holey Grail Donuts Launch Holeys

Oakberry Açaí Bowls and Smoothies has opened at 122 N. Larchmont Blvd.

Oakberry Açaí Bowls and Smoothies has opened on Larchmont in the former Jamba Juice space. We stopped by yesterday to check out this healthy fast food addition to the selection of eateries on Larchmont.

The menu features açaí, pronounced “ah-sah-EE,” açaí is a small, dark purple berry that grows in rainforests in Brazil on the Euterpe palm, a tree indigenous to the Amazon rainforest. The açaí pulp is a natural antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals. It contains minerals like Potassium and Calcium, Vitamin E, healthy fats like Omega 6 and 9, and proteins, according to Oakberry, the Brazillian-based company.

Bowls and smoothies come with a wide variety of toppings. They also sell açaí snack bars.

Oakberry has over 600 stores in over 35 countries in the world. Larchmont is one of five locations in Los Angeles.

Holey Grail Donuts Debuts Holeys Donut Holes

Holey Grail Donuts launches Holeys, the first-ever taro donut holes tomorrow at their Larchmont shop.

Aptly named “Holeys,” Holey Grail Donuts launches their newest menu innovation, the first-ever taro donut holes tomorrow, Thursday, March 23rd, at their Larchmont shop.

“More than a year in the making, the new “Holeys” are the first-ever taro-based donut holes introduced to the market and are made-to-order in organic coconut oil and are 100% gluten-free,” explained the company.

Holeys were developed by Holey Grail co-founders, brother-sister team Nile and Hana Dreiling using a new dough combining taro, the signature ingredient in their donuts, and rice flour so it’s gluten-free like all their other donuts. We’ve been told Holeys have a crisp exterior, and a warm, slightly chewy interior. We’ll have to check them out.

Holeys are available in Holey Grail’s signature Original Sin flavor (with Hawaiian vanilla bean, maple and sea salt), as well as a weekly rotating special flavor.

To celebrate National Donut Day (Friday, June 7th), Holey Grail Donuts will offer a free Holeys promotion titled “Make Any Donut Holey,” where customers receive a free donut hole with any donut purchase on the holiday.

You can also find Holeys at their shops in Honolulu, Santa Monica and the newest shop in Long Beach shop, opening in June 1st. Holey Grail Donuts opened its Larchmont shop last Spring. This is the first new food item the company has added to its menu.
