Remembering Sidney Felsen

Sidney Felsen who brought the art of today to so many people since 1966 has died at the age of almost 100 – three months shy.

He lived in our neighborhood and could be seen until recently walking with his wife Joni Weyl – always wearing one of his amazing hats.

Sidney and his co-founder Stanley Grinstein started Gemini G.E.L. in 1966. They revolutionized art at the time. They started doing lithographs with the artists of the time. Robert Rauschenberg was one at the beginning then they came from all over the world because at Gemini they could do what they wanted and in Los Angeles, they could get inspiration from the movie industry, the aerospace industry, and emerging startups. Sidney was right there saying yes to the artists.

We will miss Sidney – his risk-taking and his alluring attire that brightened up our neighborhood.
