LABC Presents: The Greatest Westerns Ever Made with True West’s Henry C. Parke

May 1 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 pm

Enjoy a catered breakfast, silly songs, club traditions, and special presentation each week at the historic Los Angeles Breakfast Club.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Screenwriter and film historian Henry C. Parke has spent the better part of the past 15 years documenting the Western’s past, present, and future for True West magazine and the INSP network. His new book, The Greatest Westerns Ever Made, and the People Who Made Them, is an eclectic collection of about eighty of the articles he’s written as the Film and TV Editor of True West. It was released by Two Dot Books earlier this year.

Henry will lead the audience through the history of Westerns, from the silent era, through B-movies, A-pictures, noir-ish post-World War II Westerns, Spaghetti Westerns, TV series & finally to the big-screen and small-screen Westerns of today. He’ll speak about his tremendous good luck in interviewing filmmakers and performers, including directors Walter Hill (The Long Riders, Geronimo, Wild Bill) and Simon Wincer (Lonesome Dove, Quigley Down Under), actors Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall and Tom Selleck, wild men like Bruce Dern, as well as the too-often neglected American Indian performers, and women, both in front of and behind the camera.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Brooklyn-born, L.A.-based writer and film historian Henry C. Parke joined the Young Filmmakers Foundation in his teens, and graduated from New York University’s School of Film and Television. He has been Film & TV Editor for True West since 2015, has written Henry’s Western Round-up, the online report on Western film production, since 2010, and writes twice-monthly articles for the INSP Channel’s blog. His screenwriting credits include Speedtrap (1977) and Double Cross (1994). He’s the first writer welcomed into The Western Writers of America for his work in electronic media. Henry has recorded audio commentary for nearly thirty Western Blu-rays, and is featured in the Turner Classic Movies documentary short TCM Movie Fanatics: Westerns. Henry has been married to his wife, Stephanie, for over thirty years, and their daughter, Sabrina, is a documentary Producer.
